Reimagining the Security Deposit
The security deposit is clumsy and outdated financial tool. Though it protects landlords from damage to rental units, it also complicates relations with renters who must lock up cash for the long term.
No More Up-Front Cash
Obligo aspires to revolutionize this relationship by freeing both sides of the security deposit. Renters provide a secure, limited billing authorization, and don’t have to set aside cash up front. If there is a claim, owners can get immediate damage reimbursement while renters can pay in installments.
The financial arrangement is called an “Obligo,” and it dramatically increases good faith, accountability, and transparency.
Simply Obligo
Because the idea of a security deposit with no immediate out-of-pocket commitment is new and potentially confusing, we designed a desktop experience for Obligo’s marketing website that helped simplify the transaction concept for renters and owners.
